This is an attractive old market town and the administrative centre for the county of Rutland,
with good shops, restaurants and public houses; providing a convenient centre for many activities.
The county provides many opportunities for outdoor pursuits such as cycling, sailing and birdwatching on nearby Rutland Water.
The nature reserve, where the very popular British Birdwatching Fair takes place in August, is within walking distance, and
Burghley House in Stamford, where the famous horse trials take place in September, is only a short drive away.
Another short drive to the south is the historic Rockingham Castle, with Rockingham motor sports only a little further.
